It feels like just yesterday we were chatting about all our favorite ways to beat the summer heat, but for families with kids going back to school, summer is slowly coming to a close.

And you know what that means? It’s time to start thinking about pencils, pens, and paper.

But hey, not so fast! We’re not fully there just yet. There’s still time to book a last-minute trip for some fun in the sun.

If you’re not ready for summer to come to a close, and you’re on the hunt for quick and easy spots to take the kids before back to school, we’ve got you covered.

Try one of these family-friendly vacation spots before the kids head back to school:

1. Florida, Florida, Florida!

As a Jacksonville-based company, we might be a little biased here, but with gorgeous weather, palm trees, and plenty of beaches, we have no problems recommending all things Florida for a last-minute family trip.

In particular, some of our favorite family-friendly spots in Florida include: Orlando (for Disney World, of course!), Amelia Island (for a laid-back beach trip), and believe it or not, while Miami might be most well-known for its nightlife, you’ll be happy to know they also offer children’s museums, some of the most beautiful beaches in the state, and no shortage of dreamy hotels with big pools.

2. San Diego, California

If warm weather and sunshine are on your radar, but you’d like to visit another state other than Florida, we can’t say enough good things about San Diego.

Full of family-friendly resorts, you won’t run out of fun activities for the whole family here! In fact, many of the hotels in the area have kids’ programs that specifically entertain the kids while the adults relax. Truly the best of both worlds, San Diego is a must-see in our books.

3. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

If you’re looking for more of a city experience, we highly recommend getting familiar with Pittsburgh.

Your kids are guaranteed to have a wonderful time at the Pittsburgh Children’s Museum and the Pittsburgh Zoo. Plus hey, with a rich urban center, there are plenty of great kid-friendly restaurants worth checking out.

4. Nashville, Tennessee

Tennessee happens to be one of our favorite travel destinations, so we just couldn’t make this list without giving them a little nod.

While Nashville might be more well-known for country music and rowdy bachelorette parties, because this is such a major city, there is no shortage of spots to take the kids. Hit up the science museum, take a dip at the water park, or feel free to try out the Nashville Children’s Theatre.

And, if you’re looking for some more adult-oriented activities, check out our favorite restaurants and shops in Nashville.

5. Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

End your summer in one of the most quintessential summer spots there is, Myrtle Beach!

With plenty of festivals to visit, we have no doubts that visitors of Myrtle Beach won’t run out of things to do. Did we mention they have more than 50 miniature golf courses? No doubt about it: Myrtle Beach is a must on any summer bucket list.

Are you sad to see summer coming to a close? Or perhaps you’re eager to see the kids go back to school? Whatever the case, it’s always nice to end your summer on a high note.

And what better way to close out summer than a family trip? Try one of the spots mentioned above, and soak up these last days of summer vacation!
