It’s the most wonderful time of the year! With the holiday season now officially upon us, it’s time to start chatting about all things holly and jolly. Today we want to kick off the holidays by helping you prepare for all the wonderful festive events headed your way. While it’s certainly easy enough to go into full winter hibernation mode, and spend your evenings doing your online Christmas shopping, today we’re giving you all the fashion inspiration you’re going to need to get you out of the house and enjoying your holiday.

Here are our absolute favorite outfit combinations to wear to a festive holiday event:

The Tulle Skirt

Unless you’re Betsey Johnson or Carrie Bradshaw, there are very few instances where you can get away with a tulle skirt in your everyday life. Unless we’re talking about the holidays, that is! When it comes to holiday party dressing, there is no more classic look than a pretty tulle skirt. Dress it up with statement-making accessories and a blouse, or dress it down with subtle jewelry and a cotton shirt. The only rule? To avoid looking like a full-blown ballerina, ideally look for a tulle skirt in a midi length. You can also look for holiday-appropriate colors like forest green, deep red, or a luxurious burgundy. However you style your tulle skirt, we know you’re going to be looking right on trend for the holiday season. Guaranteed.

Luxurious Fabrics and Embellishment Always Work

Everyone has their own sense of style and preferences, so we wanted to provide you with a tip that will work for anyone, regardless of what their style is. When it comes to dressing for your holiday parties, you will always find that wearing luxurious fabrics and embellishments are true fashion gold. Think velvet, silk, sequins, and embroidery. When in doubt about what to wear to a holiday party, pick any of those materials and/or embellishments, and you’ll be true fashion royalty at your next holiday party. No doubt about it.

Red and Green? Yes Please

Not really a fan of any of the fabrics or embellishments mentioned from above? No worries. Dress in red and/or green, and you’re automatically ready for any holiday party that comes your way. You don’t have to go wild and wear red and green together to look like you’re in the holiday spirit. You can simply pick one of these colors, and you’ll easily achieve that perfect Christmas feeling. You can also decide on your level of red and/or green. For example, be bold with a statement-making green skirt, or go for something more subtle like a pop of bright red lipstick. Either way, nothing will scream the holiday season more than these two colors.

Bows and Christmas: A Match Made in Heaven

Why not wrap yourself up like a true Christmas gift this holiday season? If you have a feminine and playful sense of style, we highly recommend wearing some type of fashion piece that makes use of the bow. Whether it’s a clothing piece, as shown above, or done more simply on a shoe or piece of jewelry, the holidays are the perfect time to wrap yourself up with a bow.

Pretty in Plaid

Of course, we also can’t forget how appropriate plaid is for the holidays. You’ll find plaid particularly well suited for this holiday season since it was such a big trend this fall and winter. There’s just something about plaid that automatically gives off that cozy, holiday feeling. We love how you can take such a traditionally cozy fabric, and dress it up to be suited for a holiday party. When you look at it that way, it really is the ideal fashion fabric for Christmas. Skirts, dresses, tops, or even a plaid shoe, you really can’t go wrong when you add plaid to your fashion lineup for the holiday season.

Basically, what it all comes down to for holiday party dressing is that it’s all about being a little “extra” as you style your holiday outfit.

What do we mean by “extra”?

We mean not being afraid to stand out from the crowd and bring the holiday cheer. If you normally wouldn’t wear sequins because they’re too flashy, the holidays are the perfect time to get your sparkle on. If you’re not usually a bold red lip kind of woman, it’s time to make use of the holidays and pucker up. Sparkly, over-the-top, and flashy is really what holiday fashion is all about. We hope this little list gave you the dose of inspiration you needed to put together all your holiday party looks.

Now get going: you’ve got some holiday styling to do!
