Because sure, the heat might be unbearable, but that doesn’t mean you should have to spend your summer stuck inside watching Netflix, right?
Next time you experience a heat wave, try one of these ideas to beat the summer heat:
1. Consider Your Clothing

First things first, one of the best pieces of advice that we can give for beating the heat is to consider your clothing.
Even if this might seem obvious during a heat wave, really think about your comfort. Because even if you think a pair of shorts will keep you cool enough, a cotton dress is always going to be more breathable.
In that same vein, even if you think your favorite pair of slides will look great with your outfit, always opt for your most comfortable pair of sandals when temperatures rise.
Trust us, when your cool and comfortable, you’ll be in a much better mood to handle the heat.

2. Go To A Museum

When looking for things to do in the hot summer, we love the idea of hitting up some museums.
With the air conditioning blasting, this is a great way to spend an afternoon doing something fun and new, while still getting to enjoy the benefits of being indoors, escaping the heat.
3. Water Slides, Sprinklers, And Water Balloon Fights!

Don’t have a pool?
Don’t let this be an excuse for not enjoying some outdoor time, even in the heat.
There are always waterslides and sprinklers that you can set up in your backyard.
Even making a whole afternoon out of it by inviting friends over and having a water balloon fight can make for a memorable experience.
No matter what your age, with kids or without, don’t doubt the fun (and heat-saving benefits!) of water activities in the backyard.
4. Enjoy Evening Activities

Does the mere idea of going outside in the peak of the heat make you start sweating?
Trust us, we get it, and that’s why we’re not going to guilt you into going outside if you don’t want to.
In this case, think about evening activities you can do outside when the temperatures start to drop.
Maybe it’s simply going for a leisurely stroll in the park?
Maybe you take the whole family out for ice cream?
Or maybe it’s quite simply heading out for a late-night dinner on a patio, or a simple glass of sangria?

Whatever it is, getting fresh air is important, and when the temperatures skyrocket, we recommend getting your outdoor time in at night. Make sense?
5. Have No-Bake Food On Hand

And lastly, when trying to beat that summertime heat, we highly recommend stocking up on foods that don’t require baking.
Even if you do have air conditioning, having nice cold food on hand is always a welcomed treat on a hot day.
For example, cold potato salad, popsicles, sandwiches, coleslaw, gazpacho soup, watermelon, yogurt with granola, hummus, and veggies, and iced wine all make for great treats to experience on a hot day.
