Sweater Weather

You’ve probably all heard the term “sweater weather,” right? Whether you’ve come across the catchy tune, you’ve seen your friend use the caption on Instagram, or you yourself are all about sweater weather, it’s a term that has gained major popularity in recent years, making the Fall season even more appealing. Perhaps this Fall obsession comes from the comfort we all seek from chillier days? Maybe Fall fashion has just gotten better? Or hey, maybe it’s quite simply that we all just can’t get enough of our Starbucks Pumpkin Spiced lattes? Whatever the reason, it’s as if the second the air starts chilling, we all have some internal clock that gives us permission to start digging out all of our favorites sweaters from seasons past. Big oversized knits, soft cardigans, or slouchy turtlenecks, sweater weather really isn’t hard to embrace. Summer girl or not, nobody can deny the pure delight that comes from wrapping yourself up in a cozy sweater, so today we’re sharing our five favorite sweater styles to get you inspired for sweater weather (not that you need much encouragement!).

Our five favorite sweater weather styles:

1) The Cardigan Sweater

Let’s start with the most basic sweater of them all: a cardigan. Because really, who doesn’t already have a classic cardigan? We’re thinking pretty much everyone, but in case you don’t, it is time for you invest. Cardigans are the absolute perfect layering piece, especially when still transitioning from warmer temperatures to cooler. We love that you can take them on and off, use them to dress up an outfit, and even sometimes use them in place of a jacket. Button up cardigans, knit cardigans, slouchy cardigans, and even cropped cardigans, there’s no doubt that every fashion-obsessed woman has quite the cardigan collection stored in her closet.

2) A Sweater Dress

Because yes, even if you are someone who is much more inclined to wear a dress, you can still embrace sweater weather. We love that you can go for a shorter length sweater dress that is perfect for wearing with leggings and over the knee boots, as shown above. But if you want something less casual, you can go for a more standard length dress that still has that sweater look to it. Dress up your sweater dress with a cute pair of booties, and you’re ready to hit the town or the couch. Your choice.

3) The Turtleneck Sweater

We’ve said it before, but we’ll say it again: turtlenecks are a huge trend for 2017. While we completely believe that a turtleneck is a style that will always remain a classic, in recent seasons, its popularity has certainly picked up. In particular, turtlenecks this season are getting a bit of a twist. Look for overly ruffled turtlenecks, statement sleeves, and bright colors. While a standard black turtleneck will always serve you well, we suggest going for something a little more modern and on trend as you shop for your turtleneck this season.

4) The Fisherman Sweater

And if you’re really ready to get extra cozy this season, we can’t say enough good things about a classic fisherman sweater. The fisherman sweater actually has quite a rich history, but without giving you a full history lesson, the fisherman sweater was created for fishermen who fished the very cold waters of Ireland. The stitching pattern is intricate, the silhouette is always oversized, and the comfort level of wearing such a sweater is pretty much guaranteed.

5) The Cashmere Sweater

Any style, any color, any shape, you absolutely can’t go wrong when investing in a cashmere sweater. And, while yes, a cashmere sweater can end up being a bit more of an investment piece, when you’ve found one you love, it will absolutely be worth the price tag. Trust us, if you’ve never felt cashmere, you don’t know what you’re missing out on. So smooth, so soft, so perfectly cozy for a night spent cuddling on the couch. But hey, a cashmere sweater may be super cozy and comfortable, but they’re also chic enough to wear out on the town. Really, a cashmere sweater is something that is truly going to last you for years to come. Find one you love, and spend the money. You’ll be happy you did.

So, tell us, which of these sweaters do you need to add to your collection? Remember, a sweater is always a great investment piece. They may be more pricey than your basic t-shirt, but they’re lasting quality is unbeatable. Look for classics, and trust us, your money will be well spent for sweater weather to come.
