How to Pack for Summer Travel

Summer Travel Packing Tips

Here at Unlikely Pear, we love to travel. Whether it be a quick weekend getaway, a girl’s weekend, or a full-blown family vacation, more often than not, you’ll find us on-the-go.

That being said, with the summer months rolling around, this time of year tends to be the most popular time to travel, and that’s why, today, we want to go over how to pack for summer travel.

In particular, we want to show you how to pack minimally and still maintain your love for fashion, because, trust us, once you discover the magic of packing carry-on luggage, you’re never going to want to go back.

Sound good? Okay, let’s dig in and talk about packing minimally for summer travel!

1. Be Particular With Your Shoes

Between wanting to ensure you bring all the pairs you need, while still giving yourself enough space in the rest of your luggage, shoes tend to be one of the most difficult things to pack.

If you struggle with packing shoes for summer travel, here are our three tips:

  1. Wear your bulkiest shoes on your day of travel. For example, if you’re bringing comfortable walking shoes, wear these (espadrilles are great for walking!)
  2. For summer travel, having a good pair of slides is never a bad idea.
  3. We know you love your heels, but when possible, for summer travel, replace your bulky heels with really chic ankle-strap sandals, or a low kitten heel.

The bottom line when packing your shoes: consider what you really need for your summer trip, and don’t forget about comfort.

When it comes to clothing for summer travel, stock up on all the basics.

White tanks, black tees, cool crop tops– the more, the better.

In particular, we love good separates because you can mix and match them for different looks.

For example, if you have a really good black tank, you can wear this piece with your denim skirt, but you can also dress it up with a tropical floral maxi skirt for something a bit more evening appropriate.

Believe us when we say, you’ll never go wrong with basics.

Having said all of that, if you’re not necessarily a big fan of tanks and tees, don’t hesitate to pack rompers and dresses.

Rompers and dresses are great for summer travel for their easy-to-wear nature, and for their space-saving size.

4. Don’t Overpack Your Toiletries

We know, we know: you want to pack your whole makeup bag, and you couldn’t possibly part with your favorite shampoo and conditioner.

Well, first of all, when it comes to makeup and summer travel, you’ll likely wear much less than you think.

That bulky eyeshadow palette that has one color you actually like? Don’t waste space on it.

Those 12 shades of lipstick? Bring the one or two that you truly gravitate towards.

And, as for things like shampoo and conditioner, take the time to put these products into travel size containers. You can get them at the dollar store, and they’ll save you so much space.

5. Roll Your Clothes

We’ll end on a very quick, but super effective packing tip: roll your clothes!

Instead of folding, roll your clothes like you would a burrito, and you’ll be able to pack so much more.

Plus, your clothing tends to not get as wrinkled when you pack this way.

So, what type of summer travel do you have planned?

Are you someone who’s into the idea of packing minimally, or would you rather be prepared with as many wardrobe staples as possible?

Give these packing tips a try for your next trip, and we think you’ll see the appeal of packing minimally.
