For many of us, when we think of summer, we think of days by the pool, sunshine, vacation, swimsuits, and sandals, right?
Of course! And there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that.
Having said that, while lounging by the pool and vacationing are great ways to enjoy the lazy-hazy days of summer, this time of year is also the perfect time to get involved in your community!
We all have time to give, especially in the summer when life tends to be a bit slower for most people.
And so, if this is you, help out those in need in your local community with some of these summer volunteer ideas:
1. Check Out The Library

In today’s day and age of ebooks, online magazines, and blogs, hitting up your local library might seem outdated, but if you’re looking for summer volunteer opportunities, you’ll hit the jackpot at the library.
Most likely you’ll be helping children, assisting with organizing events, and getting to work with those who might need assistance with their education and reading abilities.
No doubt about it: the library is an excellent spot for those looking for summer volunteer opportunities.
2. At A Hospital

Generally speaking, no matter where you are in the country, hospitals are always looking for volunteers.
In particular, we highly encourage you to check out volunteer opportunities at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Whether it be spending time with children, serving food, participating in hospital events, or helping to clean after events, this is a worthy volunteer opportunity that we can’t say enough good things about.

3. At An Animal Shelter

While it is, of course, important to take care of the humans in our local communities, we also can’t forget about our furry friends.
Providing so much love, comfort, and support to many of us on a daily basis, we always encourage people to give back to animals in need.
In particular, if you live in the Florida area, please check out volunteer opportunities at the Florida English Bulldog Rescue.
4. Retirement Homes

Another important part of our society that could always use our help is the elderly.
While each retirement home will be different, if you’ve ever had a family member in a retirement home, you understand the importance of quality care.
Provide that level of care to someone else’s loved ones by volunteering your time at a retirement home.
5. Habitat for Humanity

If you’re one for building and creating, Habitat for Humanity is always a great cause to get involved with.
Helping to build homes for those who require assistance, Habitat for Humanity hopes to make affordable housing available for all.
Help make this dream come true by becoming a Habitat for Humanity volunteer.

And lastly, if there’s one spot you can always go to find a variety of volunteer positions, its the local YMCA.
Whether it be coaching a sports team, tutoring children, or helping with events, the YMCA often has multiple volunteer opportunities available throughout the year.
At the end of the day, though, you choose to volunteer your time, if you’re helping to improve upon the lives of people/animals that need it, you’re doing it right.
Find an organization or mission that speaks to you and your values, and we know your time will be well served this summer.
